Cold as the Depths
There are many guilds in the city of Ilyssa’s Landing. Some guilds are nearly as powerful as some of the noble house, while others seem to be nearly obsolete. The league of guilds consist only of the most powerful guilds, who own strengths are often supplemented by the support of lesser guilds who have sworn loyalty with an often related and more powerful guild.
Guild Master: Tialeah Crestmane
Charged with cleaning the waterways, harbor, and ports of Landing clean, the dredgers have always faced the ominous task of delving among the ruined and waterlogged buildings sunk during the earthquake a hundred years ago.
Sea Dervish Guild
Guild Master: Captain Ulan Turhat
One of the single largest guilds in the city the Sea Dervishes, or more commonly known as the Sharks, consists of those freelance sailors, ex-pirates, or mercenaries who hire themselves out as guards and privateers to the merchant fleets coming in and out of Ilyssa’s Landing.
Inker’s Guild (Tattoos)
Guild Master: Nunzio Guido
With so many foreigners coming into the city regularly, a small but important market as risen for people able to change one form of money for another, and lending money to those who are down on their luck or find the market for their product not what they suspected.
Blacksmiths and Armorers Guild
Guild Master: Urik Toregson
A guild of growing power and importance, the Blacksmiths recently took in the lesser guilds that crafted the weapons and armor of the city, and represent the men and women who create ship bands. This level of influence from from a single guild has caught many nobles and other guilds off guard.
Guild Master: Helga Ironnail.
A large guild, and a powerful one, the carpenters guild is constantly at odds with several other guilds. Seeing most forms of construction as falling under their area of influence, lead by Grand Master Ironnail, the carpenters conflict with the stone masons and shipwrights regualrly.
Guild Masters: Oxdine and Dineox.
Run by the strange “brothers” Oxdine the gnome and Dineox the elf, the Tinker’s guild is like the Alchemist guild in that it is as feared as respected. Often producing inventions the city can use, but also causing many accidents and a few deaths many citizens call on the Tinker’s only when necessary, but their specialized talents and skills place them in high demand more often then wished.
Guild Master: Silas Coin-crafter
Considered by many to be the single most powerful guild in the city, anyone who sells from a fixed location in the city belongs to the Merchants; and many of the dealers from other nations who visit Ilyssa’s Landing also belong to this guild.
Guild Master: Dimitry Molovict
Of the many guilds in the city, the Tavern keepers are a guild which has grown the most in recent years. Finally breaking away from the Innkeepers guild, they have become a power onto themselves in the city. With so many sailors and travelers from other nations require strong drink, the Tavern Keepers could cause great unrest if they decided to turn off the taps.
Guild Master: Poof
Run by an eccentric gnome who lacks body hair, and has no memory of his childhood do to a failed experiment, the Alchemists are one of two guilds who are feared as much as they are respected. Claiming only a small number of members, the alchemists provide most of the city’s medicine and other herbs and portents required by the people.
Guild Master: Guido
A guild powerful not so much because of their numbers or influence, but because as a guild it provides a place for some of the more unintelligent and unskilled labor of the city. The loading and unloading of ships, wagons, and other forms of cargo haulers is a simple task and many citizens in the city acknowledge that the city’s least capable men and women end up providing a useful service.
Guild Master: Martin Rosewater
While not as powerful as it once was, the Innkeepers guild still holds some influence over the city given the service they provide. But still the lost of the Tavern keepers has greatly hurt the guild, and they are struggling to maintain their power and not be consumed by other, larger guilds.
Jewelers and Gem-cutters
Guild Master: Evelyn Dumont
To serve at court. The courtesan guild seems more like two guilds in one then anything. The public face is that of a guild consisting of those men and women who work as runners, pages, assistants, etc. for the nobility of the city. Providing a valued service for the lords and ladies of the city. But the equally well known, and spoken of only in private, second face of the guild is that as the prostitutes. Nearly every brothel in the city answers to the Courtesan guild in some manner.
Guild Master: Gregory Sea-Worth
Many people speak of the Rahad as a place to go only when you’re dead and don’t know it yet. Sadly it is also home to the shipwrights. The only guild that specializes in ship construction and repair, which in a port town makes it incredibly powerful. But to help protect its clients there is a special gondola dock with walls and guards built right beside the building.
Oddly enough, the Sunrise district houses no guilds, and its noble representatives the Knowlern family has taken strives to prevent this from ever happening. Voicing the opinion that the district of faith should remains free of the taint of greed.
